About Holi
The celebration of Holi is very ancient in its origin. And
by its very origin, it celebrates an ultimate triumph of the
'good' over the 'evil'. While, a feast of colors associated
with the Holi, is the face of this celebration, the original
reason of celebrating Holi, lies in its soul. And this gives
us the 'why' of this ancient festival.
Literally "Holi" signifies "burning"
in Indian language. But, how it came to be associated with
'burning', is a story. The reference is found only in ancinet
Indian mythology. And It is the legend of Hiranyakashipu,
to whom the celebration of Holi is associated.
Holi Hai! A colourful festival - Holi, heralds the arrival
of spring and traditionally marks the harvest of rabi, is
celebrated in boisterous abandon. In true spirit of Holi,
you can wash away any misunderstandings and differences you
may have had with your friends by putting gulal or spraying
colour on each other and sharing sweets. There are several
legends associated with Holi.
About Holi Food
The special food items that are prepared for Holi are gujjia,
papri and kanji ke vade. Meat dishes, like kofta curry, are
also served.Thandai or alcoholic beverages are served along
with the food.
